Goodbyes don’t always arrive
with a warning.
They come quietly,
dressed as ordinary afternoons,
the kind that feel
too simple to remember.
We wore white shirts.
We carried markers.
As if ink on cotton
could somehow hold on
to what time
was already letting go of.
People wrote across our backs.
Promises too.
“We’ll stay in touch.”
“We’ll meet again soon.”
And we believed every word.
Not because we were “naive.”
But because being together
always feels like it will last.
That is the nature of togetherness.
It does not ask to be “preserved.”
It simply exists,
fully,
the way morning light exists
before anyone thinks
to name it beautiful.
We danced.
We laughed. We took photos,
certain there would be
many more.
What none of us knew
was that we were already standing
inside a memory.
The kind that only becomes visible
once you have walked
far enough away from it.
Then the results came.
And people left.
Not suddenly.
The way a river does not disappear,
it simply grows
quieter in some places
and louder in others.
Friendships became
a message here.
A birthday wish there.
A familiar name appearing
on a screen
instead of across a room.
And somehow,
that was still love.
Only in a different
“language.”
And then one day,
while looking through an old photo,
I saw us again.
All of us.
Smiling.
Unaware.
Nobody in that picture knew
it was the last time
we would all be
in the same place.
That is the strange thing
about the moments
that matter most.
They rarely “announce” themselves.
They do not arrive
with ceremony or weight.
They arrive softly.
The way understanding grows
between two people
who have stopped
needing to explain themselves.
And by the time you realize
it was the last time,
it has already become
a photograph.
A stillness.
A place the soul
keeps returning to,
not out of grief,
but because some memories
do not ask to be forgotten.
They simply ask
to be felt.

"आपकी लेखनी का जादू शब्दों के पार जाकर सीधे रूह को छू लेता है। जीवन के उन अनकहे पहलुओं को इतनी खूबसूरती से उतारने के लिए शुक्रिया—ये पंक्तियाँ केवल पढ़ी नहीं, महसूस की गई हैं। अद्भुत!"
